Biography:

My involvement in ceramic art began over 30 years ago. It is informed by my work as a community health nurse with mothers and infants. Clay is a medium of the earth, a symbol of motherhood. We ourselves are of the earth, nurtured within a womb, a closed vessel.

My work in clay embodies large free-form coiled sculptures of vessels. I form the outer texture, which reveals the nature of the clay body, during the process of constructing the pot. The openings are small; the viewer's eye is thus directed to the clay's exterior surface, while the mind is invited to contemplate the space within the form.

These forms manifest my interest in the ancient feminine mystical view of life in its darkness and mystery, its celebrations and creativity.
